Patients at the TUTH offered him juice, formally ending his hunger strike. Dr K.C had launched the hunger strike demanding end to the trend of appointing senior officer-bearers at the teaching hospital based on political affiliation.
He sat for the hunger strike after Tribhvan University vice chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan appointed Dr Dharma Kant Banskota as the acting dean of TUTH for the duration of three months. Dr Banskota, who is junior to a number of TUTH Professors, is a UML loyalist with close personal relation with Maharhan.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) that had announced strike in hospitals across the country has ended all the protest programmes with Dr Sayami's appointment.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, following a meeting with NMA representives, had directed the concerned authorities to immediately appoint new dean.
